New photos as of 05/29/06

While sitting in the rose garden at Boyce Thompson Southwestern Arboretum eating my lunch,
I just happened to look up and in a tree probably some 200 hundred feet I see this bright red bird.
I grabbed the ole D70s Nikon with a 400 mm lens and snapped away thinking I probably wont get any good images that far away.

What did not see was the female Summer Tanager in the tree also.

Here's a bit better photo, but not much.

I no sooner snapped the shutter and off they flew.

Now where did that female go anyway?

***********************************

Here she is but not for long.

**************************************************

Off she goes to where no buddy knows.

Below photos taken at an earlier date.

I just wanted you to see that this bird is RED from toe to head.

While in Portal, AZ. and at the Cave Creek Ranch I had put out oranges to attract Orioles, guess what? The Summer Tanagers ran the Orioles off and ate the oranges then self.
